Flat 4, 14 Clifton Terrace, Brighton:

An existing maisonette on 3 floors in a grade 2 listed building within the West Hill conservation area. The client wanted a total refit and reconfiguration of the layout. Some new design elements were added such as the shower pod in the main bedroom (see pictures), bathroom and kitchen. With existing elements being retained and period fireplaces and doors being reinstated.

 

A number of designs were explored in layout and in the detailed design to ensure the client’s taste was catered for. The builder was chosen at tender stage not only on cost basis but also because of their expertise in specialist furniture manufacture. My involvement was as designer and contract administrator during the build.

 

64 Whichelo Place, Brighton:

One of a number of extensions since the beginning of 2010, but my favourite. A small but complex kitchen extension to a terrace house with an outside seating area (see pictures). The siting of the extension creates an extra space running off the dining room and the kitchen and so creates an internal circulation to the ground floor. The kitchen becomes big enough to  comfortably fit a table and the floor finish of clay tiles continue seamlessly out to the patio and seating area, making the inside and outside spaces feel like one and therefore bigger.

Maximising openings in the existing building and proposed extension and introducing a large triple glazed roof light also add to make this small space seem more spacious and airy.
